Hotel History

Lagoona Beach Bungalows is one of the eco-resort style accommodations located in the tourism area of Batukaras Beach, precisely in Batukaras Village, Cijulang District, Pangandaran Regency, West Java, Indonesia. This accommodation officially began operating in 2018, as part of the rapid development of the tourism sector in the Batukaras area, which has increasingly attracted both domestic and international tourists. Batukaras itself is widely known as a peaceful coastal village with beautiful natural scenery and a relaxing atmosphere, making it a popular destination for travelers seeking tranquility and authentic cultural experiences.

The establishment of Lagoona Beach Bungalows was inspired by the growing popularity of Batukaras Beach as one of the best surfing destinations in West Java. The beach is known for its relatively consistent waves that are suitable for both beginner and experienced surfers. This development in marine tourism encouraged the creation of various tourism facilities such as restaurants, guesthouses, and eco-friendly accommodations to support the needs of visitors. As a result, Lagoona Beach Bungalows was developed to provide a comfortable yet environmentally conscious place to stay for tourists exploring the Pangandaran region.

From the beginning, Lagoona Beach Bungalows was designed with an eco-friendly concept, combining the beauty of tropical nature with the cultural atmosphere of West Java. The architectural design emphasizes harmony with the surrounding environment, using natural materials, open spaces, and artistic elements that reflect the traditional character of the local community. The main goal of this concept is to offer guests a unique staying experience where they can connect with nature while still enjoying modern hospitality facilities and services.

The resort is located in a peaceful village environment surrounded by tropical gardens, rice fields, and lush green landscapes. This natural setting creates a relaxing atmosphere that allows visitors to escape from the noise and stress of urban life. Because of this calm environment, Lagoona Beach Bungalows is often chosen by travelers who are looking for a quiet retreat, honeymoon destination, or a relaxing holiday close to nature.

Since its opening, Lagoona Beach Bungalows has offered a unique open-air bungalow concept. The property consists of several bungalows that are designed with private terraces, tropical garden views, and artistic decorations that reflect the charm of traditional Indonesian architecture. Each bungalow is equipped with facilities such as a private balcony, hammock, comfortable bedding, and an open-air bathroom, allowing guests to experience bathing under the sky in a natural setting. These design elements create a distinctive atmosphere that differentiates the resort from conventional hotels.

In addition to providing accommodation, the management of Lagoona Beach Bungalows also organizes various cultural and recreational activities for guests. These activities include Sundanese traditional cooking classes, local handicraft workshops, fishing trips with local fishermen, bicycle tours around the village, and surfing lessons at Batukaras Beach. Through these programs, visitors are able to interact directly with the local community and learn more about the traditions and culture of the region. These initiatives also support the concept of sustainable tourism and community-based tourism development in Batukaras.

The history of Lagoona Beach Bungalows is closely related to the life story of its owner, Deni Nurdiani. After marrying a French tourist, he spent part of his life living in France and traveling internationally. Before establishing the bungalow resort, the land where Lagoona Beach Bungalows stands today originally belonged to his family and was inherited from his parents. His mother, Emak Icih, was known as a vegetable trader in the local market, while his father, Lamhidun, was a veteran soldier who once served during the Dutch colonial era in the KNIL military unit.

After the passing of his parents, Deni Nurdiani began developing the inherited land and decided to pursue a career in the tourism and hospitality industry. His first business venture in Batukaras was the establishment of a traditional restaurant called Dapoer Kampoeng, which was founded in 2016. The restaurant focuses on traditional Indonesian and Sundanese cuisine, offering visitors an authentic culinary experience that highlights local flavors and cooking traditions.

Encouraged by the positive response from tourists visiting the restaurant, Deni Nurdiani expanded his business into the accommodation sector. In 2018, after securing investment support, he officially developed Lagoona Beach Bungalows as a boutique eco-resort. The project was supported by his nephew, Purnama Siliwangi, who contributed his expertise in information technology by managing the resort’s website, social media presence, and digital promotion. He also assisted in the visual and conceptual design of the resort.

Interestingly, the architectural inspiration for the bungalow design partly came from Deni Nurdiani’s experiences traveling abroad. During his stay in the United States, he visited several places in Texas, which influenced his ideas about rustic architecture, natural materials, and relaxed outdoor living spaces. These inspirations were later combined with traditional Indonesian elements to create the distinctive design style that characterizes Lagoona Beach Bungalows today.

Over time, Lagoona Beach Bungalows has gained recognition as one of the unique accommodations in Batukaras that offers a combination of natural beauty, cultural authenticity, and warm hospitality. The resort continues to attract travelers who wish to experience the natural charm of Pangandaran while enjoying a peaceful environment surrounded by tropical landscapes.

With its eco-resort concept, strategic location near popular tourist attractions such as Batukaras Beach and Green Canyon, and its strong connection with local culture and community, Lagoona Beach Bungalows has become a popular choice for both Indonesian and international visitors who want to explore the natural beauty of Pangandaran in a more authentic and relaxing way.
